I feel that it would help the critics to hear my experiences as I was once like them. When Ez first asked if I wanted to go to the Red Bull A.O.M comps, I was
hesitant. I didn't really believe that competition would benefit freerunning or myself and that it wasn't needed. I kept thinking about it and at the
least, I was getting a free weekend in Vienna to party with 30 amazingly talented freerunners. I'm glad I went.
The competition was secondary to the atmosphere. Everyone was at the sidelines cheering whoever was on the course at the time. If people done something amazing we all yelled and cheered and screamed and if someone got hurt (like Ryan) we ALL rushed to them straight away. We all voted honestly as to who should win and it meant that we got to watch the illest semi final ever. The after party was probably one of the greatest nights of my life. Hanging out in a tour bus drinking free vodka redbulls with the coolest people in the freerunning scene cannot be justified by words. As for the aftermath, there was none. There was no backlash, the sport wasnt corrupted. The only people who had changed since that event were the competitors, and it was for the better. We had all shared an amazing event that was the first of its kind. If you turn up to WFC with an open mind and try to have a positive time, you will have the time of your life. If you're turning up to be negative and to bitch and cry then whats the point of wasting money on a ticket and taking the place of someone who really wants to be there? I think some people are probably just upset that they weren't invited. I'm not directing that at anyone personally, but I get the feeling that things would be v. different if the pessemists (sp?) were offered a chance to represent or be in charge. I know as a matter of fact the WWJ have been trying to pitch the comp format as one of my friends told me last week. He says that Andrew has made a bunch of course designs and little info packs, yet the people on his forum are crying about the WFC. Ah fuck it. The only thing that hate breeds is hate. So the haters aren't gonna get any love from me. I am not having anyone ruin sept 3rd for me.

I'm REALLY fucked off about this, I'm out of the country in Bulgaria when it's going on. I'm so annoyed that I'm looking into flying back
for the day then flying back out there, just need to stumble onto some cash

Kerbie's right. When Redbull first contacted us to be involved, I was really anti the whole idea but decided to go along and check it out anyway. It turned
out to be one of the sickest experiences yet on this journey. Every single competitor was there united under one banner and having the most amazing time. No
beefs, no politics, just everyone having a blast.
BWFC will be no different in terms of the vibe but will be delivered on a bigger stage with higher production values. I'm fully aware that there will be some who will want it to fail but with Barclaycard, Sony Ericsson and Adidas helping us to deliver it, we won't let that happen. |

NO WAI!
I agree 100% with kerbie, these kind of events with enrich some peoples freerunning experiences and for the people who choose to be effected by it, it might leave a bitter taste in their mouths. But the point is, this thing is going to happen. So instead of bitching and complaining, why doesnt everyone just accept it. |

There seem to be a few retards on other websites talking more shit and worrying about hypothetical situations so I thought I'd try deal with some of it
here (since I'm banned from several other websites). In response to Alistair on WWJ
People like Kerbie say that competition will bring us together. Oh yeah, silly me, I forgot that we can't train together and share the love unless Addidas are paying us £10k for it. Oh please, not all of us need to be paid to get out of bed in the morning.I haven't recieved anywhere near ten G off of Adidas in the whole time we've been sponsored by them. I think by the end of next year I might have. It will ruin the discipline because it will slowly turn people against each other in their increasing desperation to win. People will want to train in private to stop others "stealing their moves". Right now, the best in the world (with a couple of exceptions) will train with anyone, and that's what makes it a beautiful thing. There is no elitism, no boundaries, and competition will only serve to create this. There may be ways that YOU would react in a competition situation, but definatly not the way I've seen anyone else react. I'll use team tempest for example, I'll be very shocked if they don't have a team member in the top 5. Yet they are humble, really funny and don't take themselves too seriously. They release new videos showing amazing talent and keep innovating. I'm sure that they'll be performing many movements from the "I Freerun LA" video and most likely will have built on them to have an impressive arsenal of moves for the BWFC. However, not one person is worried about knowing their whole routine because those people that will be there cannot wait to see what they have to show us and how entertaining it will be. I think you must have some personal baggage that makes you think that everyone will go to extremes to win a competion because MAYBE it's you that cannot deal with losing. Do you see the best in the world in any competitive discipline training together? Of course not, they're busy trying to stay one step ahead, keeping their methods secret and doing all they can to get ahead. Most competitive sports are very old. A lot of people won't feel the same passion as us. We watched our sport being born. We nurtured it up onto it's feet and today we all continue to keep this sucker alive. It's bitches like you that are killing the whole fun vibe. Believe me, somewhere in your myopic vision of being a hero, you're actually the real villains thats murdering the scene, the sport and any hopes of fun in the future. And just wait until people turn to steroids. Maybe some already have. We have no governing body to look after the welfare of athletes. We have no long-term research into what is a safe load to put on the body and what isn't. The problem is, people will skip the getting strong part, we all know anyone with technique can perform acrobatics, the problem is, they'll push too fast too soon and we'll have an explosion of injuries. You're totally right. After the A.O.M Redbull comps, I ordered some bullshark testosterone off of ebay and I'm getting jacked up. So are all 29 other competitors. Once again, maybe it is something you would consider that goes hand in hand with competitions. But I don't think I know anyone that would do that. Once again, the focus is on the atmosphere and the chance to unite Freerunners from all over the world. If you appreciated unity then you would get where I'm coming from. But seeing as you take your delights from bitching, contrasting people and segregation it'll probably be wasted words. If only you knew boy, if only you knew. What can we do? Tell the media, email the sponsors, kick up as bigger fuss as possible. Because if this is allowed to happen without a fight, the door is open for total destruction of our discipline. Ez might want you to think it's inevitable but there's strength in numbers.Man I can't even begin to tell you what's wrong with your line of thinking there. Do you think that a company that has injected so many resources and time is going to listen to your bitch ass whining? Welcome to the real world. This is going to happen. There is so much positivity that could come from this if you had the right attitude. Imagine being surrounded by amazing purpose built obstacles, training with worldwide breddars and learning different styles from all over the globe? I wouldn't waste your time getting all 7 active members on WWJ to email them. How about you picket the competitions and stage a protest? There's gonna be shit loads of free grub and drink in the green room. Whilst we're not competing, we could play target practise chucking chicken and stuffing sandwiches at you. There's one thing that the corporate whores will always answer to, their target audience. And clearly, by sponsoring this, they think they'll gain customers, if we make them see that in fact they're shooting themselves in the foot, they'll think twice about sponsoring anything like this again.Trust me, Barcleys is a bank. Bitches at home with their parents and living off of pocket money are not their target audience. They need people that are earning cheddar, not crying about earning money. Ez's life is far from pathetic, 99% of people I know would love to have the same oppertunities he's created and the life he's made. As for taking a stand?Haha against 30 people in a sports hall having a laugh, now thats pathetic. Try stand up for something important in the world if you really wanna be an activist.

Who knows. Competetive Pk may save your life!
"Beat me in a race from point A to B or i'll blow your brains out!" In Britain the whole shooting thing is becoming more common! To me the way people are treating this are the same as with say a martial art. I don't know, Karate, Kung Fu, all of these probably require dedication and discipline to master it, but with them being in movies and shit now, no one really wants to learn that. They just want to look cool in a fight. Fair enough. There's no harm with going about something for the fun of it, you could choose it because of the discipline side of it, but just because a couple of people are learning it to look good, doesn't mean that everything falls apart. There are always going to be people who do PK and FR for the discipline and fun. I do it for fun, too keep in shape etc. I respect those who see it as a way of living, but I won't change myself because they don't agree with how i treat it. Nothing will change from this, besides an increase of members. |

+1 Kerbie.
I teach Kung Fu, yet I don't hold back any techniques or abilities from my students in fear that they will use them to pwn me and keep everything cool a secret so I can FTW the world. Oh, and with all those quotes you posted up there; I'm assuming all those people writing that are now claiming they practice freerunning not parkour? Because this is a freerunning competition, not a parkour one - in which case all their philosophical bullshit goes straight out the window. FTW THE KIDS!!!!!

biomech - LOL! :P freefood - victory! at the end of the day, if you dont like it, just go about your own training and let the competition go ahead with its own... - seperate yourself completely and whats the problem , train your parkour and leave the freerun competition to its own ..... as i said earlier, dont stand in the rain! |
